Paraphrase telegram from the Governor of the Straits

Settlements to the Secretary of State for the Colonies,

Dated 27th January.

(Received Colonial Office 5.20 a.n.,

27th January, 1927)

Your telegram of 19th January China Situation.

I am advised that there is very little effect here at

present and it is considered unlikely that unless there

is actual declaration of war British employed labour

will go out on strike. The presence at 3ingapore of

one of His Kajesty's ships now en route for Hong Kong

would exercise & restraining influence on possible

reaction in the Peninsula of hostilities in China and

I suggest with this object one of them should be

detached.
